Ata-Fen A.S. is the general distributor of Ege Vet Ltd. Sti. Ege Vet is founded in 1988, by 3 veterinaries. Together with its broad and matchless marketing net, Ege Vet is able to sell its products all over Turkey. The center of Ege Vet is in Izmir, Turkey and has 5 branches in Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Antalya and Hatay. In 2006, a biotechnology company, namely "Vaccine Biologicals Research (VBR) Manufacturing and Trade Co." was established by the founders of Ege Vet and a human vaccine expert who has PhD on Microbiology. As VBR has been located in Ankara, the veterinary vaccines production plant that has been built according to cGMP regulations is located in Izmir. Also, the processes, methods and cleaning of the whole plant have been validated according to cGMP regulations. VBR works on development and production of whole cell and subunit vaccines and various high added-value recombinant proteins, including Hepatitis B. In its laboratories, the development of veterinary vaccines against important livestock diseases is of main current concern. RnD activities concerning combined clostridial vaccines as well as subunit vaccines against Escherichia coli K99 have been financially supported by TUBITAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. First experimental vaccines developed in this frame were recently tried on livestocks with very promising results and scale up efforts are ongoing. VBR aims at producing human vaccines in near future, pertussis vaccine at a very first place. Accordingly, VBR has been a collaborator of immunoproteomics research directed by a Prof. at Molecular Microbiology Lab, Biological Sciences Department, Middle East Technical University (METU). Besides these studies, recently discovered immunogenic proteins of the organism are anticipated to have potential in VBR efforts to develop 3rd generation, acellular DPT vaccines.
