Founded as the first private and second largest flat steelmaker of Turkey in 1990, Borcelik started its activities in 1994 to produce “cold-rolled steel sheet coils”. Borcelik continues its activities under the partnership of Borusan Holding and ArcelorMittal, one of the largest global steelmakers. The company’s strong market position is based on dynamic labor force, innovative approach, continuous investment for self-development and growth, customer- oriented service and quality approach. Borcelik is located at a distance of 200 km to Istanbul and 28 km to Bursa at the Gemsaz vicinity of Gemlik. It’s location has a strategic importance due to its proximity to these two industrial and commercial hubs of Turkey. Location in the Gemlik Gulf allows the company to benefit from the loading, unloading and port activities of Borusan. Production activities in Gemlik are carried out at an area of total two hundred and forty thousand square meters. Borcelik carries out production in the hot dip galvanized steel, cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel (pickled and oiled) groups, all of which are used as raw material input in industry. Borcelik carries out production in commercial, drawing, deep- drawing and extra-deep drawing steel, as well as bake-hardening, structural grades, rephosphorized, HSLA, high-carbon and special alloy steels, enameling and dual phase qualities.The annual 1.5 million tonnes production capacity of Borcelik consists of 600 thousand tonnes of cold rolled steel 900 thousand tonnes of hot dip galvanized steel. With its 900 thousand tonnes of galvanized capacity, Borcelik has the largest production capacity in Turkey and uses state of the art technologies in galvanized steel production. Borcelik has received the following certifications all of which were the “first” in the industry: ISO 9001 Quality Management System in 1997, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System in 1998, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System in 2000, ISO TS 16949 Quality Management System in 2003, ISO 27001 Information Security Management System and ISO 10002 Customer Complaints Management System Certificates in 2007. The company was also entitled to receive the ISO 50001 Energy Management System and ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gases Management System Certificates in 2012. The “Voice of Customer-VoC” system that Borcelik implemented since it was founded has an important part in this success. Borcelik was awarded the EFQM Excellence Model National Quality Achievement Award in KalDer Large-Scale Corporations Category by TUSIAD in 2001, the Environmental Incentive Award by ISO in 2006, the JIPM Excellence Award by the Japan Institute of Planned Maintenance in 2008 due to the Total Maintenance Management (TPM) works it successfully continued for many years and the JIPM Award for Continuity in Excellence in 2012 and the BUSIAD Environment Award in 2009. It received the flat steel exporter award at the “Stars of Export Award Ceremony” organized by IMMIB (Istanbul Mineral and Metal Exporters Unions) in 2010. Borcelik was also entitled to receive Bursa Metal Industry Top Prize at the 2014-2015- 2016 Economy Value Contributors Awards organized by the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO). Borcelik was also granted the grand prize in the cold and coated flat steel export category at the “Stars of Steel Export Award Ceremony” organized by the Steel Exporters Union in 2015 and 2016. Borcelik has been using the Lean 6 Sigma methodology since 2002 and manages all improvement activities accordingly.
