Macka Mezat Auction House was founded in 1990 by Ahmet Utku, a well-known antique dealer in Istanbul and his wife Ayse Utku. With a vast array of artefacts included in their sales, Macka Mezat encouraged appreciation of Seljuk pieces, Ottoman works of art, Turkish and Orientalist paintings and early Chinese porcelain. Its memorable estate sales have set some record prices which helped spur interest in art investment. Since 2000, Macka Mezat has acted as one of the major pioneers in promoting Turkish modern and contemporary art by scheduling auctions and specific events featuring Turkish artists.
