Thermocouple
A thermocouple is a sensor for measuring temperature. It consists of two dissimilar metals, joined together at one end, which produce a small unique voltage at a given temperature. This voltage is measured and interpreted by a thermocouple thermometer. Life of thermocouple will be constrained by an ambient environment and also by ageing. As a result, wires in thermocouple measure reduced voltages as the thermoelectric coefficient changes with time. Also, conductors lose homogeneity on prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
