The company owns seven sisal decortication factories and one sisal spinning and weaving factory which is the largest factory in East and Central Africa. It also owns a well-equipped workshop and a fleet of earth-moving equipment, road construction machinery, farm operations machinery and transport trucks. SISALANA CORDAGE FACTORY The cordage factory deals with spinning and weaving of sisal products, it is located about 1 km off the Tanga – Dar es Salaam/Arusha highway at Ngomeni – Muheza District area in Tanga. It is well served by rail and road into the hinterland. The mill is capable of producing 10,500 tons of yarns per year. The factory has two preparing lines, each capable of producing 10,500 tons of yarns per year. The factory manufactures various products from sisal fibre as follows: 1. Agricultural and packing twines with runnage ranging from 120 to 300 m/kg. 2. Rot proof and water repellent sisal ropes with diameters ranging from 6 mm to 48 mm. 3. Fine yarns, runnage 300 to 900 m per kg. 4. Carpets, buffing cloth and geo-textiles with width of 65 to 400 cm. 5. Sisal Bags (50kgs - 100kgs carrying capacity) 6. Finished products from sisal carpet material range from hand bags, easy chairs, containers, round and square coasters, pen holders, table mats, laptop bags. CENTRAL WORKSHOP Central workshop is located at Korogwe District -Tanga region, it is an engineering section providing services in and outside the company in the following areas: ❏ Road constructions ❏ Dam and dyke construction ❏ Forest and bush clearing for construction work ❏ Land preparation for small- and large-scale farming ❏ Maintenance and operation of heavy equipment’s and machineries ❏ Spare parts manufacturing especially for sisal processing machinery Automobile maintenance and repair ❏ Engine reconditioning ❏ Operation and maintenance of sisal processing factories SISAL DECORTICATION FACTORIES The company owns seven stationary sisal decortication factories capable of processing 1,400 meters of fresh sisal leaves per day and one mobile decorticator available for hiring which is capable of decorticating 50 meters of sisal leaves per day. The services offered includes decortication, drying, brushing and baling of sisal. The seven factories are located at Korogwe District specifically at Hale, Mwelya, Usambara, Magoma Kulasi, Magoma Songea, Magunga, and Ngombezi. The factories decorticate sisal leaves from both Sisal Small Out growers and large out growers at an affordable cost and at the best quality. The factories produce 4% and 73% of 3L and UG grade respectively out of the total sisal fibre processed. SISAL FIBRE TRADING The company also deals with buying and selling of sisal fibres for internal use and exportation. Sisal fibre is available in different grades from 3L, 3S, UG, SSUG,UF and Tow.
